About
I’m Jeremy. I took the long way around, and it turned out to be the useful way.
I’m a flight nurse who spent the first half of my career on the business side of healthcare. Success Metrics exists because those two halves finally make sense together.
The long way around
I started in EMS at sixteen, volunteering with county fire and rescue in Maryland. In college I worked as an ED tech and interned with an ambulance service. I was sure I knew where I was headed.
Then I got a master’s in health services administration and went the other direction. Operations strategy. Finance. Consulting for hospitals, nonprofits, and startups. Eventually, government relations for a health data company that worked with state Medicaid programs. Good work, big rooms, lots of spreadsheets.
Around forty, I went back to the bedside. Nursing school, then the emergency department at University of Utah, where I was a charge nurse through COVID. Then into flight nursing, first in Farmington, New Mexico, and now as a flight nurse and clinical supervisor across bases in Colorado and New Mexico.
People ask why I’d leave a leadership career to start over. The honest answer: I wanted to see the difference I was making, not read about it in a quarterly report.
Why that matters to you
Somewhere along the way I noticed the same thing over and over. Clinicians are some of the smartest, most capable people I know, and almost none of us were taught a single thing about money. In healthcare it’s practically taboo to talk about it. So when a nurse starts a business, she’s brilliant in the treatment room and flying blind everywhere else.
I’ve spent years helping clinicians write business plans, build budgets, and turn a clinical skill into something that pays the bills. What I do best is translate. I take the finance side and put it in the language you already think in.
Because you already know how to do this. You assess. You intervene. You reassess. That’s the nursing process, and it works on a business exactly the way it works on a patient. We just have to learn which vital signs to check.
What I believe
Knowing where you stand beats guessing.
A budget full of rough estimates is still better than no budget. You can refine a plan. You can’t refine a guess you never wrote down.
The decision is yours.
I don’t do your numbers for you; I help you understand them well enough to decide with confidence. The decision is yours, and you’re never making it alone.
No judgment. Put all the cards on the table.
I’ve failed more than I’ve succeeded, so nothing you show me is going to shock me. We get everything out, then sort out what’s a priority and what’s just noise.
What I’m not
I’m not a CPA, a certified financial planner, or an attorney, and nothing here is individual financial, tax, or legal advice. I don’t sell insurance, recommend loan products, or take a commission on anything you decide to do. Think of this as the fluency that helps you have better conversations with those professionals, and make more of your own decisions with confidence.
